What do your programmes cover, and how are they structured? +
Each Occara programme runs as a full training day, typically structured across eight modules, though the exact number varies by programme. Delegates work through a purpose-built workbook and take part in facilitated discussions and practical activities. A half-day option is available for some programmes. All materials — workbooks and trainer manuals — are included in the day rate.
How is this different from mandatory care training? +
Mandatory training typically covers compliance topics: manual handling, medication, fire safety. Occara focuses on practice quality — how staff think about independence, assess what matters to a person, and approach structured support. It complements your existing mandatory training rather than replacing it.
Who is the training suitable for? +
Our adult programmes are designed for care workers, support workers, team leaders, and managers in homecare, supported living, and reablement services. Our paediatric programme is suited to staff supporting children and young people in residential services, short break provision, education settings, early help teams, and family support services. Managers attending alongside their team is encouraged — shared language and understanding helps embed learning into everyday practice.
Can the training be adapted to our service context? +
Yes. During our initial conversation we discuss your team's context and can make reasonable adjustments to examples and activities so the content feels relevant. This is not a generic off-the-shelf session — we want it to connect to the work your team actually does.
What happens after training? +
The workbook includes a practice review section — a brief structured prompt that delegates can return to within 10 weeks of training to capture what has changed in their day-to-day practice. Completed review pages can be returned to Occara as an optional quality indicator for your service.
Is Occara training provided by a registered occupational therapist? +
Occara training is not delivered by an HCPC-registered occupational therapist and is not clinical in nature. The content is developed from occupational therapy knowledge, frameworks, and evidence — and is designed to sit safely within HCPC professional boundaries throughout. This is intentional: our programmes equip care and support staff to apply occupational therapy-informed (OT-informed) approaches without crossing into clinical territory.
How far in advance should we book? +
We recommend enquiring at least four weeks before your preferred date to allow time for a conversation, confirmation, and any preparation. Demand tends to increase from September and in the new year, so earlier is better if you have a particular date in mind.
Do you deliver outside London, and do you come to us? +
Yes. All Occara training is delivered on-site — we come to your venue, wherever you are in England. Travel is included for venues within reasonable distance and charged at cost for venues that require significant travel. We confirm any travel costs before you commit to a booking, so there are no surprises. If you are based in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland and would like to discuss delivery options, please get in touch.
Is there a minimum or maximum group size? +
Our pricing covers up to 8, up to 12, and up to 16 delegates. Smaller groups can be accommodated at the up-to-8 rate. We do not currently offer open-access sessions where staff from multiple organisations attend together.
